The University of Oulu is an international science university which creates innovation and knowledge through multidisciplinary research and education. The key subjects of research are people in a changing environment, as well as opportunities that new technology provides for improving well-being and the environment. University has established ARCTIC INTERACTIONS (ArcI) scientific profile area due to its academic strengths and links with the natural resource community in the Oulu region and in Finland. The University of Oulu has long traditions in Arctic research in different faculties that is closely grouped into the Arcl research themes.
National Park "Vodlozersky" RUSSIA
Federal state budget-funded institution National Park “Vodlozersky” is a conservation, research and environmental education institution whose aim is to conserve the natural complexes and sites of special environmental, historical and esthetic value, which are to be used for nature protection, education and awareness-building, scientific and cultural purposes, and for controlled tourism. Since 2001, Vollozersky National Park has the status of a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
Nordic Eurasia Association is a Norwegian-founded NGO and membership organisation that aspires to support youth with an interest in and knowledge about the wider Eurasian space to use their competence in the interest of sustainable development and bettered neighbourhood relations. We seek to provide future-makers of the Kolactic region with a plattform to develop their skills and professional network through practical project work, while benefiting from the full support of senior supervisory board members with cross-sectoral experience. We believe that issues such as energy, nature, sustainable production and waste management as well as attractive and sustainable urban livelihoods unite us across borders. By focusing on these issues we can bring people closer together and make the world a better place to live - for us and for future generations.
Pasvik National Reserve, Russia
Pasvik Nature Reserve is a bilateral nature reserve located in the valley of Pasvikdalen in Norway and Russia. The Russian part, in Pechengsky District, Murmansk Oblast, covers 147.3 square kilometers. The reserve is located in the Paz River valley, on the left bank of the river. The mouth of the river is in Lake Inari, Finland; it flows into Russian territory and then into the Barents Sea in Norway. Its midstream is a Russian-Norwegian border. Pasvik Nature Reserve is shared between the territories of two countries.
We have 27 years of experience on nature reservation, ecological monitoring and scientific research , ecological education and enlightenment. We always participate cross-boarder cooperation projects and initiatives that are taken by all our neighboring partners in order to protect our shared natural resources.
Rokua is one of the largest individual esker groundwater bodies in Finland. It is a member of the UNESCO Geoparks Network, protected under the European Union’s Natura 2000 network, and a part of the esker is protected as a national park. Among the area’s key ecosystems are the crystal clear, oligotrophic, groundwater-dependent kettle lakes. Rokua is a popular recreation area and a holiday resort, with hotels, second homes, visitor centre, skiing and hiking routes..
